Rating: 2 out of 5.

2050 London: Marcus Tully, a journalist still reeling from the grief of losing his wife in a devastating natural disaster meets a mysterious whistleblower who offers new information on the event in exchange for writing a controversial article.

As the world begins to descend into environmental ruin, a global vote for a “protector” against devastating climate change is held between an American and an Artificial Intelligence “artilect”.

Meanwhile, there’s been a murder at a cocktail party, a conspiracy of governmental corruption, and a series of lethal threats are unraveling from all sides.

Is your head spinning yet?

The best thing I can say about this novel is that it was sometimes engaging. Often dry and dragging, this story was so tediously heavy with details that it became exhausting.

When old problems were left unresolved and new plot points were uncovered over 90% into the book, I nearly lost all patience with it.

I understand that there will be a sequel, but I still prefer to feel resolved at the end of a novel. This entire book felt like a massive exposition dump to set the stage for a series.

Thank you to Del Rey, Random House Worlds, Inklore for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
