Hot Wax
By M.L. Rio

Hot Wax tells a dual timeline story of Suzanne’s life, past and present. The daughter of a rockstar, her past life was filled with excitement, electricity and trauma. Her current life has electricity of its own, and is not without scars and bruises from the past.
In this coming of age drama, Suzanne puts the pieces of her past together in the wake of her father’s loss when she asks herself, what does it take to be somebody?
First of all, this was a brilliant piece of writing. ML Rio’s prose is vibrant with imagery and depth. Still, this one ultimately missed the mark for me. A deep, dark secret was teased through the entire book until 90% of it was finished, and it just didn’t stick the landing for me. That said, I’m so impressed with the writing that I look forward to reading other stories from this author.
