When the Wolf Comes Home
By Nat Cassidy
APRIL 2025

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Jess works the night shift at a grungy twenty-four hour diner in North Hollywood. Lately, the only thing she’s been struggling with as much as her acting career has been trying to come to terms with the recent loss of her father, who was never really around anyway.

When Jess meets a young boy running away from his own father, she finds herself in a position to care for this child, and perhaps address some deep-seated wounds for her inner child, too.

This story has everything I’m ever looking for in masterful horror: vicious gore, gonzo ideas, unexpected twists, and above all, a whole lot of heart.

Nat Cassidy is easily one of the best horror writers I’ve ever read. I don’t say that lightly. He has a menacing talent for cleverly crafting concepts you would never even imagine could scare you. But he also clearly has a lot of heart, compassion, and empathy, and it comes out just as beautifully and viscerally as any of the horror elements.
