THIS CURSED HOUSE
By Del Sandeen

Jemma Barker has always felt a sense that she didn’t belong. Even before she learned she was adopted, she knew her Daddy had always wanted her to be a boy. In the early 1960’s, the prejudice towards the dark brown color of her skin had also been a cause for her to feel this way.
Intrigued by a job that pays $300 a week, Jemma decides to move from Chicago and follow the job to New Orleans. She has no idea what she has gotten herself into.
This mystery thriller is more than a ghost story. It’s a twisting tale of deceit that is steeped in themes of identity, shame, and belonging, and gives an unflinching account of racism and the horrors of slavery in the American South.
