THE Memory Police
By Yoko Ogawa

For residents of the island, it is necessary to adjust to the fact that things sometimes disappear. There can be no sentimentality with these sudden losses, and one must learn to accept them. The Memory Police will ensure that all traces of items that have disappeared are disposed of and forgotten. Those burdened with the innate inability to forget will be taken.
This novel is thought-provoking, obscure, and even poetic. I will say at times it gets a bit repetitive to the point of being almost boring, but I will also say I’ve never read anything quite like it. I think it may have worked better for me if it were a short story, but I still enjoyed this strange tale.
