Welcome to Wicked Words

Wicked Words has been on a wild ride. Starting in January 2024, Wicked Words was a humble book club for me (Sara) and a handful of my friends all over the US. Rapidly, it evolved into a podcast when me and my partner, Greg, made the decision to join forces and blend our passions together into a single project, discussing horror books and films.

By the end of 2024, we had jumpstarted our Patreon and built a community of Sinners in our Discord. In that time, the people in our community have been awesome. We have laughed together, bitched together, cried together, and shared wild and fun nights in Members Only Watch Parties.

Wicked Words is still only getting started. There are so many ways that you can engage with us, and I hope you find the way that works best for you! As an introduction, I’ll share some of the features we’ve added to this club. You can treat it as a bookish buffet – take what you want, leave what you don’t. We are a very laid back “come as you are” group.

PATREON

Obviously, you can get the most out of this club by joining us as a Coven Member ($6.66/month) on our Patreon. Our members are the only ones who get exclusive access to our Members Only Watch Parties where we watch the film adaptation (or a companion film) for our book in each series together on Discord. Our members also have the chance to vote on our next book in each series! Lately, our members have been favoring the “blind vote” option, where they vote between several themed items and the results are not revealed until the next book is announced. Of course, Members have the perk of early and ad-free podcasts, so they get all the inside scoop first!

PODCAST

The weekly podcast can be found on our Patreon, but you can also find it on Spotify and Amazon Music.

Each series is broken down in the following format:

  • Series Intro: Book Announced & About the Author, this is your chance to learn a bit about the author and go pick up the book so you can read up to “Part One” and be ready for next week’s episode!
  • Parts of the Book: The book is broken down into manageable chunks (about 100-150 pg. per week) and a new podcast is released each week with a new chunk of the book discussed. Ideally, if you’re following along, you can read only up to a marker we’ve made as a natural stopping point (a chapter number, heading, or general page number) and tune in for the next podcast so you can be on the same page with us (literally!).
  • The Film: We will let you know what the film was for each series and we will discuss the film on this episode.
DISCORD

You don’t have to be a member to join us on the Discord! Our Discord is a very active community of Sinners from all over the world that talks every day about all kinds of things – not just books and films. There are dedicated chats to ranting about whatever’s going on in your life (“fuck-this-shit”), chats to give public appreciation to fellow Sinners (“holy-sinners”), and even a chat to discuss tattoos (“my-boy-does-tats”) by popular demand. Our Sinner community is an inclusive, welcoming space for people from all walks of life that aims to be a safe space for everyone. If you’re interested in getting to know us before you sign up, this is a good place to start!

WICKED RADIO

For those who like to listen to background music while they read, we have curated a playlist themed for each book in our series’. You can find each curated playlist on Spotify using our Wicked Radio. If you are catching up on podcast episodes, this is a great way to stay in the zone while reading, then switch over to the podcast to decompress and “discuss” the part you’ve just read with Greg and Sara on the show!
